Minister of Education Visits ASUE and Hosts a Lecture
Zhanna Andreasyan, the RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports (MoESCS), and Sargis Hayotsyan, the Chairman of the Higher Education and Science Committee have paid a visit to the Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE).
The minister's visit began with a campus tour, during which ASUE Rector Armen Grigoryan showed the newly renovated, fully equipped, and technologically advanced classrooms and halls that have significantly transformed the university's infrastructure. The rector elaborated on the recent upgrades and emphasized how these improvements aim to enhance the quality of education. Minister Andreasyan expressed her gratitude to the university administration, noting that the large-scale work accomplished in a short period has created a fitting environment for higher education.
Following the tour, the minister met ASUE faculty and students. In his welcome remarks, Rector Armen Grigoryan thanked Zhanna Andreasyan and Sargis Hayotsyan, calling the visit a great honor. He stated that the Ministry’s commitment to higher education reforms reflects its "consistent attention to the development of universities." The rector also acknowledged the Ministry's continuous support for ASUE, delivered through daily collaboration.
In her opening remarks, Minister Andreasyan shared that her parents were ASUE alumni. She noted the symbolic timing of the visit on the eve of International Students' Day, emphasizing the Ministry’s dedication to fostering open dialogue with universities and students.
During her talk on "Higher Education Reforms in Armenia", the minister highlighted the strong traditions of higher education in Armenia, at the same time addressing the significant challenges the sector faces. She discussed the new draft law on “Higher Education and Science,” which aims to tackle these challenges and is currently under public discussion.
“The professional education system plays a vital role in ensuring societal progress by preparing the workforce that society needs. In this regard, economic analysis should take a central place in our efforts. I am pleased that ASUE is actively contributing to this direction, and we must utilize these analyses more effectively in the development and implementation of policies,” said Minister Andreasyan. She also underlined the importance of maximizing the research potential of universities to provide solid foundations for state policies and private sector practices.
The minister addressed key elements of the draft law, including university consolidation and the development of academic campuses, emphasizing the goal of setting a unified standard across the higher education system and achieving international competitiveness.
The meeting concluded with a Q&A session, where Minister Andreasyan and Chairman Hayotsyan answered questions about university internationalization, the new law, academic campuses, and institutional mergers.
