General information
The Ph.D. program at ASUE is designed for students interested in pursuing advanced study and conducting original research in Economics. The Ph.D. equivalent degree (Doctor of Economics) is awarded after course work and completion (defense) of the dissertation. Postgraduate education can be conducted in full-time and part-time means, respectively, with duration of 3 and 4 years. The full-time postgraduate education program’s workload is equivalent to 180 credits, consisting of 2 interconnected parts: educational and research-based. During the first semester students take 3 main courses: research methodology, Informational and educational new technologies and business English. During further Ph.D. studies students can specialize in subjects of their choice according to specialization.
The postgraduate student is expected to:
- Pass the exams designed by the curriculum, accumulate relevant credits, complete the dissertation, and pass a preliminary discussion of the dissertation in the relevant institution.
- Have a scientific supervisor and a work plan approved by the Scientific Council, and at least 36 hours of scientific-pedagogical - research workload.
- According to the work plan, the postgraduate student is once a year being attested by the chair or other department representatives. The reports of the Ph.D. students and their scientific supervisors are regularly heard and discussed in the university's corresponding department, faculty council, scientific subdivisions of the organization and scientific council.
- While conducting scientific research, the graduate student can use the institution's scientific equipment, laboratories, computer equipment, libraries, etc.
Completion of a dissertation
The culmination of the Ph.D. program is the dissertation, which embodies the results of the student's original research. Dissertation has to be submitted during the first 3 years along with relative articles, but can be defended later. Students working on dissertations participate actively in research workshops. The dissertation represents a significant contribution to the body of Economic knowledge. After completion, the faculty committee must approve the dissertation. The student takes final oral examinations (minimum exams) on the subject of the dissertation. Defense of dissertation and awarding of the degree is organized by ASUE specialized council under State Supreme Certification Committee of RA.
ASUE provides Ph.D. studies in different areas of Economics and Management and offers five special Ph.D. programs.
1. General Economics
The Ph.D. program in Economics at ASUE trains students in economic theory and the tools of economic analysis. Through course work, participation in seminars, and supervised research students are taught to conduct theoretical and empirical research at the highest level. The program equips its graduates with modern economic techniques.
2. Economics of the Economy and its Spheres
The program is the highest degree awarded in the field of business. Typically, this degree is reserved for individuals wishing to pursue academic research or teaching careers as professors at management or business schools. Students are offered to conduct applied research in different fields, such as management, marketing, microeconomics, business, and environmental economics. The program enables students to take leadership positions in economic research in academics, business, and government.
3. Finance, Accounting
ASUE postgraduate program in Finance provides students with a solid foundation in modern finance's theoretical and empirical tools, drawing heavily on the discipline of economics. The department prepares students for careers in research and teaching at academic institutions, focusing on Asset Pricing and Portfolio Management, Corporate Finance, International Finance, Financial Institutions and Macroeconomics. The program is designed to provide broad-based training in theoretical and empirical research in Finance.
4. World Economics
The program is designed for highly qualified and motivated students who wish to acquire the international scientific community's research and analytical skills in economics. Students are required to attend advanced courses in International Economics, covering the most recent developments both in trade theory and policy and in international money and finance. Successful students are expected to conduct professional careers in universities, public and private research and consulting organizations, and financial institutions.
5. Economic-Mathematical Models
The program aims to educate graduate students in the fields of mathematical analysis and mathematical modeling, Information technologies, and the applications of mathematical and numerical analysis to science and technology. The goal is to enable PhDs to work as high-level researchers in these fields in universities, research institutes, and private companies. The program offers two specializations- Economic -mathematical modeling and Information Technologies in Economics.

Visa information
The applicant can obtain entry visa in the Embassy of Armenia in his/her respective country. The Embassy issues a single entry visa to the student. The student receives a Resident Card once in Armenia, free of charge. For more information visit: mfa.am/en/visa/.
