History, operations

The chair was formed in 1981 by merging the Chairs "Accounting" and "Economic Activity Analysis", further was renamed "Accounting and Audit": in 2009, as a result of the reorganization of the chair, the "Financial Accounting" chair was formed.

The core subjects included in the educational program of the chair are taught in the bachelor's and master's degree programs of the chair, as well as in all ASUE faculties (at bachelor’s degree program).

The Chair of Financial Accounting closely cooperates with the respective chairs of CIS universities and international universities of economics, the Chamber of Auditors and Expert Accountants of Armenia, Armenian software, the RA State Revenue Committee, other departments and organizations of the private and public sector.

The chair regularly carries out activities to improve educational programs in line with international requirements. The revised and improved programs are based on the requirements of the International Education Standards of International Federation of Accountants and the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants of Great Britain) educational program that is a professional body uniting 780,000 professionals in finance, accounting and audit functioning in approximately 170 countries.

As a result of ACCA accreditation, in the period between 01.01.2024 - 31.12.2028, BA graduates of Accounting and Taxation (by industry) will be exempt from at least 4 exams when applying for the international ACCA qualification, and MA graduates of Accounting will be exempt from 7 exams.

The chair carries out ongoing activities to develop Armenian language professional literature, thus equipping the ASUE library with professional educational manuals.

The strict foundations of the professional development and the potential of the chair are aimed at organizing the teaching process in line with international educational standards and ensuring the continuity of such developments.

Scientific Research activities

The main directions of research works are the current issues of accounting and presentation and development of financial reports within the frames of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and how to solve them, as well as current issues of tax accounting, accounting and reporting in public sector organizations, and issues of accounting and reporting in banks, etc.

Staff of the Chair regularly takes part in both local and international conferences. Dozens of scientific and educational works are published annually.
