30 Years Later: Open Lesson on Spitak Earthquake Aimed at Raising Students’ Awareness
On December 7, the Armenian people pay tribute to the memory of the earthquake victims in 1988. This year is the 30th anniversary of the earthquake, in connection with which various events take place in our Republic. Mother University of Economics did not stay indifferent from the nationwide initiative: today, an open lesson was conducted by the 1st year students of the Department of Marketing and Business Organization, aimed at raising student’s awareness of earthquakes, quick and right orientation during them.
The event was conducted by Siranush Harutyunyan, PhD in Chemistry, Associate Professor of the Chair of Physical Training, Emergency Situation and Civil Defense, who is also responsible for the ES and civil defense functions at ASUE. Ashkhen Tovmasyan, Head Advisor of Survey for Seismic Protection Agency of Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia, Anna Bayramyan, collaborator the same agency, were hosted at ASUE. Representatives of the above mentioned Chair also attended the measure.
The open lesson consisted of two parts: first, Siranush Harutyunyan introduced the goal of the lesson, stressing that it is important to learn lessons from earthquakes and especially to educate the younger generation about the possible disasters. Students Ani Melikyan, Knarik Grigoryan, Irina Melkonyan, Mariam Grigoryan, Araksya Papoyan, Aren Zurabyan, Hovhannes Kalantaryan presented reports. They first spoke on the concept of the earthquake, its types, reasons, and Earth's earthquake zones.
During the second part of the meeting Ashkhen Tovmasyan made an expert comment. A substantial analysis of the representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was on the peculiarities of the earthquakes in the region, in the RA territory. Ashkhen Tovmasyan answered students’ question at the end of the meeting.
