Armen Grigoryan Elected as ASUE Rector
On September 6, President Vahagn Khachaturyan of the Republic of Armenia, who also serves as Chairperson of the ASUE Council, presided over a Council session with the election of the Rector of the Armenian State University of Economics (ASUE) as the primary agenda item.
In his opening remarks, President Khachaturyan welcomed the Council members, emphasizing that the session was being conducted in full compliance with the Constitution, laws, and legislative acts of the Republic of Armenia. He then presented the agenda, which was unanimously approved by the Council, along with the working procedures and the eligibility of the candidates for the Rector position.
Four candidates were in the running for the post: Acting Rector of ASUE Dr. Armen Grigoryan, Associate Professor; Dr. Edgar Ghazaryan, Associate Professor; Dr. Atom Margaryan, Head of the “Innovative and Institutional Research” Laboratory at ASUE’s “Amberd” Research Center and Professor at the Department of Economic Theory; and Dr. Arsen Petrosyan, Head of the Academic Department and Associate Professor at the Department of Economic Theory. Each candidate delivered a speech outlining the key principles of ASUE's reform and development strategies.
In their speeches, the candidates praised the university’s leading position among Armenia’s higher education institutions, expressed their dedication to its core values and mission, and reflected on the institution’s achievements as well as its considerable potential for further progress. Their proposals largely focused on crucial development areas, such as enhancing educational programs, boosting academic performance and research, promoting international cooperation, upgrading infrastructure, and addressing administrative challenges.
After the speeches and a Q&A session with the candidates, the Council proceeded to the election. In a closed, secret ballot, Armen Grigoryan was elected as the new Rector of ASUE, receiving 19 votes in favor.
Following the confirmation of the election results, President Khachaturyan congratulated the newly-elected Rector and encouraged him to consider the valuable ideas and suggestions raised during the session. Afterwards, the President, Council members, and the new Rector toured the university to inspect the recent large-scale improvements, including the renovation, furnishing, and technical upgrading of a range of educational spaces.
