History, operations
Chair of Languages of the Armenian State University of Economics has been operating since the foundation of the university on October 1, 1975.
The educational policy of ASUE Chair of Languages stems from the requirements put forward by different spheres of economic life on the specialists. One of the crucial educational goals of the Chair of Languages is the preparation of competitive specialists who are proficient in foreign languages for special purposes, taking into account the scientific and technological progress, development of international and market relations and the ongoing processes of globalization.
The Chair develops educational programs aimed at teaching foreign languages (English, French, German and Russian) that serve the professional purposes and the staff of the chair consistently modernizes its teaching methods (for example, EAP - English for Academic Purposes, ESP - English for Special Purposes, РКИ - Русский язык как иностранный), being the most effective and widespread approaches to teaching foreign languages worldwide.

- In 2014, chairs of Foreign, Armenian and Russian languages of the university were merged to form ASUE Chair of Languages. Since 2018, the chair is headed by Doctor of Philology, Professor L. Harutyunyan.

Scientific Research activities
Research activities are inseparable from the activities of the chair. Currently, the chair carries out scientific studies in the following directions of linguistics: methodology and issues of foreign language teaching, lexicology and lexicography, semantics and pragmatics, comparative study of languages and theory of translation.
The results of the scientific and research activities carried out in these directions are the basis for the publication of textbooks, educational manuals, reference books, methodical guidelines and other supporting materials. The academic staff of the chair actively participates in national and international conferences.
