Annual Meeting of Armenian Economic Association at ASUE (photos)

Today, Armenian State University of Economics hosted the solemn opening ceremony of annual meeting of Armenian Economic Association, attended by Professors, economists, guests of ASUE, Armenian and foreign universities (Barcelona, Georgia, France, USA and others).

Ruben Hayrapetyan, ASUE acting Rector, Professor, and Gurgen Aslanyan, President of Armenian Economic Association, made opening remarks.

Welcoming the guests, Ruben Hayrapetyan stated, that a large part of the Association and our University mission coincides. “It is extremely important that we can solve important problems for our economy by joint efforts. The process, the approaches that have been adopted by the relevant organizations, often coincide”; the University Head noted and stressed that the efforts should be combined aimed at developing economic school, economic thought in Armenia, which, in its turn, will promote the progress of country's economy.

Gurgen Aslanyan highlighted the joint activity of HEIs, including ASUE in the context of the stakeholders’ engagement in the development of economic thought in Armenia, at the same time informing that the meeting will bring together economists from 15 countries on these days, and they will discuss issues relevant to the RA economy.

Keynote speaker Friedrich Heinemann (ZEW Mannheim) made a profound professional analysis of the history of the common European currency, the economic cooperation of the European countries, economic development and integration issues, as well as the assessment of the economic and political impact of the European common currency.

Then panel discussions entitled “Why Important Economics Education?” were held conducted by Gurgen Aslanyan and attended by Ruben Hayrapetyan, ASUE acting Rector, Tigran Jrbashyan, Development Director and Member of the Management Board at AmeriaBank CJSC, Vache Gabrielyan, Dean of the Manoogian Simone College of Business and Economics (CBE), Vardan Urutyan, the Rector of the Armenian National Agrarian University, Prof. Dr. Friedrich Heinemann, Head of the Department “Corporate Taxation and Public Finance” at the ZEW – Leibniz-Centre for European Economic Research in Mannheim, Randall K. Filer, Professor of Economics at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Why and how to develop a society's economic and financial literacy, how should universities play a role in introducing a new structure and content to the economics, how and where to start and develop economic education, how economic thought can interact with states and governments, how to emphasize the importance of transferring capabilities and skills parallel to the development of science, what additional value can universities create to understand modern economic theories? Here are the main issues to be presented by speakers.

The panel discussions were continued within 3 sessions under the following headings: “Empirical Industrial Organization”, “Labor Economics”, “Pension Fund Development Priorities and Prospects in Armenia”.

Note, the three-day-meeting will be hosted at the Armenian National Agrarian University and American University of Armenia.
