ASUE is the organizer and active participant of an international conference

Armenian State University of Economics, on the initiative of the dean of Faculty of Computer Science and Statistics Sos Khachikyan, together with the Center of Eastern Asia of German Zwickau University of Applied Sciences, carries out an international conference ““Armenia and ‘One belt, one road’ initiative: challenges and problems” on May 3-5. The conference is financed by Volkswagen Foundation.

The official opening ceremony took place on May 3, at “Ani Grand Hotel” and Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia Viktor Richter, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Armenia Fan Yong, project coordinator Ralf Wrobel, ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan, internationalists, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, ASUE scientist-lecturers participated in it.

While welcoming conference participants, Professor of Zwickau University of Applied Sciences Ralf Wrobel spoke about military and political instability, unresolved conflicts and the significance and opportunities of the project “One belt, one road” within the context of new global and political reality.

“I am delighted to be here and would like to express my gratitude to ASUE for the organization of such a high level conference as well as “Volkswagen” Foundation for its assistance” – Ralf Wrobel pointed out.

ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan welcomed the organizers and participants of the conference highlighting the importance of the conference as an effective platform for exchange of ideas, advancement of science, economic development and reforms. “Our long-lasting cooperation with Zwickau University allowed us to implement many important joint projects and I hope this conference will be the reflection of this cooperation. It is especially important for the internationalization of our university as well as the development of the economic thought and from the standpoint of the advancement” – Diana Galoyan pointed out.

Ambassador of Federal Republic of Germany to Armenia pointed out that the organization of the conference is the best example of academic cooperation: “Germany is also interested in this project and we attach importance to this initiative and I hope that it will open broad opportunities of regional cooperation for Armenia as well”.

Ambassador of China Fan Yong concisely presented “One belt, one road” program, or otherwise “New Silk Way”, highlighted its significance and importance, addressed investments of the Chinese government in the region for the development of infrastructures. “China and Armenia are ancient countries and are ready to overcome all the difficulties. I appreciate your efforts to deepen the bilateral relationships especially in the sphere of science. Our primary goal is to establish mutually beneficial relations with Armenia and make it the development project” – the Ambassador pointed out.

When presenting the goals and peculiarities as well as significance of the project “One belt, one road”, dean of the faculty of Computer Science and Statistics, PhD in Economics, Associate Professor Sos Khachikyan told us that more than 140 countries are included in the Chinese economic project, including Armenia and this fact is essential for Armenia. “We, together with our German partners, tried to make this project as public as possible attaching special importance to the connection of Armenia with Iran, India and China. We have huge interests in this project within the frames of the cooperation of Armenia with the European Union and Eurasian Economic Union” – Sos Khachikyan pointed out and said that such conferences can assist the development of partnering and economic relations.

On May 4, the three-day conference continued its activities at the Center of International Programs of ASUE. Political and economic comprehensive analyses were presented and some suggestions were made.

“One belt, one road” is the strategy of the Chinese Government for the development and investments of established infrastructures, the goal of which is the deepening of commercial, investment and infrastructure connections between China and 65 countries of the region. It is planned to establish 6 main land and maritime corridors connecting China with Europe and different parts of Eurasia.
