The problems of RA Agrarian Policy and International Cooperation Were Discussed In ASEU

Today in the International Programs Center of the ASUE a regular round-table discussion in the framework of the program "Creation of platform of discussions on stimulation of inclusive growth in Armenia" has been, which is realized by the support of ASUE and South Caucasus Department of the Swiss Cooperation Office. The theme of today's meeting was "RA agrarian policy and international cooperation."

The head of the Swiss cooperation office in the South Caucasus Zara Allakhverdyan, a representative of the Swiss cooperation office in the South Caucasus Lukas Lusher, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan and a number of representatives of organizations working in the field of agriculture, vice rector on Education-Methodological Matters Paruyr Kalantaryan and representatives of the faculty of the University were present at the meeting.


Program director Nerses Gevorgyan came up with an opening speech. Firstly, he thanked the participants for accepting the invitation, and then presented the program "Creation of platform of discussions on stimulation of inclusive growth in Armenia" which is supported by the South Caucasus department of the Swiss Cooperation Office. Mr. Gevorgyan introduced the topics discussed in the framework of the program and mentioned: “This program is devoted to the discussion of problems in which the society is interested, and the vision of the program is to promote inclusive economic growth”.

"Within the program of inclusive economic growth important round tables are held, in which topics connected with socio-economic development of the Republic of Armenia are outlined" – this way doctor professor Samvel Avetisyan began his speech. He detailed all the international programs implemented in agricultural sphere in Armenia and spoke about their meaning and results. "The support to our agriculture has been from various countries and organizations. And it is important that this support was not only financial, but also as an introduction to a new system of management in the sphere of agriculture ", - emphasized Avetisyan.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Armen Harutyunyan came up with a report on “Agrarian Policy of the Republic of Armenia and International Cooperation". Speaking of agrarian policy of the state, he stressed out four perspective areas of the Ministry: infrastructure development, human capital development, availability of financial resources, institutional and legislative reforms. “These are perspective directions of state agricultural policy", - said the deputy minister.

The next speaker of the round-table discussion was the Director of Strategic Development Agency Mkrtich Ayvazyan. His speck was devoted to “Strategic Development Agency`s programs for agriculture development in Armenia”. He mentioned that this sphere had many problems, but they were trying to find complex solutions to all of those problems.

In answer to our question – “Which is the main obstacle for the development of agriculture in the RA”, Mr. Ayvazyan said: "The main obstacles of the development of the agricultural sphere are small farms, which hinder the development of commercial agriculture. Though, there are also several other problems”.

The meeting was followed by a discussion.
