BRITISH SCHOOL OF BUSINESS WAS OPENED IN ARMENIAN STATE UNIVERSITY OF ECONOMICS (photos)
Today, solemn opening ceremony of British School of Business was held at Armenian State University of Economics. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia, Chairmen of ASUE Council Hovik Abrahamyan, British Ambassador to Armenia, Katherine Leach, Chairman of LSC Council, British labour Co-operative Politician, Lord John Tomlinson, representatives of Anglia Ruskin University, London School of Commerce, members of the Government of Armenia, National Assembly, other guests.
The guest accompanied by ASUE Rector Koryun Atoyan, visited British School of Business. Koryun Atoyan and Lord John Tomlinson cut red tape, then took a tour around the auditoriums, where Koryun Atoyan presented the British School, the main advantages of applying there. Then everyone moved to ASUE Big Hall, where the second part of the solemn ceremony, which was attended by senior officials, Deputies of National Assembly, guests, University collaborators, students.
The solemn part of the event was opened by the Prime Minister’s speech.
Hovik Abrahamyan stressed that his mood was high, because he was at Armenian State University of Economics. The Prime Minister congratulated the Government of Republic of Armenia on opening of the British School of Business and highlighted continuity of improving the education sector, formation of competitive education environment, the implementation of which could be a stimulus for other Universities. “A competitive State implies a competitive system of education and research. This is what the program of the Armenian government says”; said Hovik Abrahamyan. “I consider the application of the British experience in Armenia as a significant achievement. The British Business School was established as a result of cooperation between the Armenia State University of Economics and Globe Education (GB) LTD. Today’s challenges promote that steps towards internationalization on development of education system are needed. This initiative is a good example of internationalization of domestic educational institutions”; added the Prime Minister and highlighted being a forerunner in the region, the British Business School acquires the status of a regional entity offering British standards-based training to both Armenian nationals and foreign citizens.
ASUE Rector Koryun Atoyan referred to past educational reforms of the University, evaluated the achievements, presented the establishment and opportunities of British School of Business, spoke about other successes.
“More than three years reforms aimed at strengthening the reputation of the University, the educational environment and improving the quality of education, developing research direction at the University are being implemented under “We are Changing” slogan at Armenian State University of Economics. We have had enough success on protecting University traditions and developing current achievements consistent with new times and challenges.
Everybody enters the University sees how our beloved University has changed: has become attractive with unique atmosphere, unique design, has modernized. We highlight the establishment of “AMBERD” Research Center, which is the first step to strengthen research component of the University.
3.7 percent of the University resources are allocated to development of University scientific life. “AMBERD” pretends to become a prestigious center to offer necessary analyzes and experimental approaches for development of Armenian state institutions, various branches of economy”; said the Rector.
Speeches were delivered by Chairman of LSC Council, British labour Co-operative Politician, Lord John Tomlinson, British Ambassador to Armenia, Katherine Leach, lecturer, LSC, Lester Messingham, Pro Vice Chancellor, Partnerships, Anglia Ruskin University, Dr Trevor Bolton, Marketing Manger, Benny Abraham. They also congratulated and wished good luck to a newly established project, evaluated the beginning, introduced the Master’s Degree program, educational conditions, requirements and perspectives. They thanked ASUE Administration and the Government to support the implementation of such a program.
The British Business School was established as a result of cooperation between the Armenia State University of Economics and Globe Education (GB) LTD. Globe Education (GB) LTD has four key partners, of which Anglia Ruskin University has been chosen to cooperate with the ASEU.
Under a decree adopted by the Government in 2013, the Business School’s shares will be distributed as follows: 51 percent will be held by Globe Education (GB) LTD, 44% by the State Economics University of Armenia and, finally, 5 percent by the Government of Armenia.
On August 29, the Business Schools invited bids for a British Master’s program in business administration. Successful graduates will get a Master’s degree and a diploma from the internationally recognized Anglia Ruskin University.
Students in Armenia will have a unique opportunity to attend under the same tuition two associated training modules at the London, Malta and other branches of the London School of Commerce. Lectures will be delivered by both British professors and local high-skilled experts.
