Current Issues of the Local Democracy was at the Core: ASUE Associate Professor Attended a Forum

On November 10 - Day of Local Self-Governance, a  forum on “Outlook on Future-New Agenda for Decentralization” devoted  to discussion of  current issues  of  the local democracy, which  was  attended  by Tsovinar Karapetyan, Associate Professor  of the Chair  of Macroeconomics, PhD in Economics.  The  Chair  informs  that  the forum  was  conducted  by joint efforts  of Ministry of Territorial Administration and Development, the Union of Communities of Armenia and the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe  with Swiss Government funding  within the  frames  of “Institutional support to the Armenian Communities Union” project  carried  out  by Council of Europe Office in Yerevan.  The administrative-territorial reforms in Armenia and the prospect of decentralization were discussed with the participation of stakeholders.

The  forum  was attended  by Davit Lokyan, the  Minister, Vache  Terteryan, First Deputy Minister, Armen Gevorgyan, Chief of the staff of  the Office to the President, Taron Margaryan, Mayor  of  Yerevan, governors, community leaders, conference organizers, Gudrun Mosler-Törnström, the  President  ofthe Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The speakers submitted a  number of  challenges of local self-governance and suggested ways to solve them.

Tsovinar  Karapetyan  noted  that  interesting questions and debate solutions submitted  at the  forum are  valuable for ASUE Bachelor’s  degree  students  of  macroeconomic policy  and  forecasting specialty for enrichment  and modernization of the  materials of  “Regulation of the socio-economic development of the territory” course.
