DEMAND FOR IMPROVING PHD: WORKSHOP AT ASUE

Inhouse workshopwas  heldtoday  at ASUE  within the  framework  of   VERITAS  “Structural Development of the Third Cycle Based on Salzburg Principles”  EU  Tempus  Program,  which  was  attended  by Koryun Atoyan, ASUE  Rector, Doctor, Professor, Gagik  Vardanyan, Vice-rector  of  Science  and  International  Relations,  Paruir Kalantaryan, Vice-rector  of  Methodological Matters, Mihrdat  Harutyunyan, Vice-rector  on  Educational  Matters, Nerses  Gevorgyan, project coordinator  at  ASUE,  Heads  of  the Chairs, collaborators  of subdivisions.

“Investment  of  educational component  in PhD,  mechanisms  for  science funding  such as internal  grants,  research  groups, “AMBERD”  Research Center  are  aimed  to improve the 3rd  degree  of   higher  education  at  our  University.  Master’s  Degree  and  PhD  students  are  involved in this  process, and  they  are  paid  for the  conducted  research  work”;  said  Koryun Atoyan, at the  same  time  outlining  that there  were  a  lot  to  do  for  improving the  3rd degree  of   higher  education.  Rector’s speech  is  presented  here.

Nerses  Gevoryan presented the  content  of  VERITAS  project: ultimate goal, principles, structure, working  packages.

Anna  Pakhlyan,  Chief  Specialist  at  Quality  Assurance  Division at ASUE, spoke  about  activities  planned  by  working  packages  within the  framework  of  the  projects.

Gagik  Vardanyan  presented 10  principles  of  Salzburg  by  a  report  entitled “Problems  of  the 3rd  Degree  of  Education at ASUE  in the  Context  of  Salzburg Principles”,   raising their  problems in Armenian  educational environment.  Vice-rector  mentioned  that there  would  be  still opportunities to discuss each principle separately.

Yuri  Suvaryan, Chairman of 014 Professional Council, Full member of National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of  the  Chair  of  Management at ASUE,  draw  the  colleagues’  attention  on problems  of  degree  awarding  process.

Summarizing  workshop, Rector  Koryun Atoyan  mentioned  that acquaintance with Salzburg principles  and  identification of  problems stated  that  our  University  had  a  lot  to  do  for  improving  PhD  education,  quality  of  research, as well as commercialization of innovations   and  we  are  willing to go  on development and constructive way.

Rector  stressed  that  new ideas and suggestions  by   partners  were  being  expected in this  context.
