The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has announced the name of the laureate of 2023 in the field of economics. The State Bank of Sweden awarded the Prize in Memory of Alfred Nobel to Claudia Goldin "for the insights of the role of women in the labor market".

“Understanding women's role in the labor is important for society. Thanks to Claudia Goldin's groundbreaking research we now know much more about the underlying factors and which barriers may need to be addressed in the future,” says Jakob Svensson, Chair of the Committee for the Prize in Economic Sciences.

Claudia Goldin was born in 1946 in New York. She is Doctor of Philosophy, a Professor at Harvard University (USA).

The press release of the Nobel Committee states that Goldin has identified the main causes of gender inequality in the labor market. She presented the first comprehensive report on women's income and labor force participation in 200 years and her research reveals gender differences in income level as well.
