Farewell meeting of “Fulbright” scholar Peter Tumanoff at ASUE
“Fulbright” scholar Peter Tumanoff’s trip at Armenian State University of Economics was over. ASUE Rector Professor Koryun Atoyan hosted him in his office. Gagik Vardanyan, Vice-Rector of Science and International Relations, and Vard Ghukasyan, Head of Foreign Relations Division, also attended the meeting.
Koryun Atoyan expressed gratitude and mentioned that his visit was so useful for ASUE students and lecturers, we received positive responses. “We are interested in continuing our cooperation with you, in any format”; mentioned the Rector and added that our University has almost no plans for cooperation with American universities, hence we’ll be glad to start cooperation with them.
Peter Tumanoff also expressed gratitude for hospitality, expressing hope that the cooperation with ASUE would be continued, in this regard some certain projects are being identified, particularly within the framework of “Horizon 2020” project.
The professor expressed desire to participate in University annual conference, which usually held in the fall, and immediately received Rector’s invitation.
Koryun Atoyan also wondered about the impressions of Armenian visit. The professor mentioned that these months spent in Yerevan were very impressive for both him and his wife, their family had an opportunity to study not only the history of Armenian nation, but also to find certain information relating to his origin.
“I was always told that I have Georgian roots, but during my visit here, I realized how important my Armenian roots are and the impact they have had in my formation. Here I became interested in my roots, origin and also made good friends, whose positive energy will make me to return Armenia”; said Peter Tumanoff adding that he would tell his students in Boston about his Armenian visit, meetings, trainings and research.
Gagik Vardanyan spoke about the importance of exchange programs within the framework of academic mobility, stressing that they provide not only an opportunity of experience, knowledge, teaching methods, but also a wonderful chance for cross-cultural communication.
Referring to professor Tumanoff’s visit the Vice Rector underlined that it was so useful for both students and lecturers, they were positively impressed. “I think such exchange programs will give a great impetus to our students and staff”; stressed Gagik Vardanyan.
At the end of the meeting Koryun Atoyan awarded a certificate and souvenir to the guest, expressing hope for future cooperation.
P.S. “Fulbright” scholar, American Professor Peter Tumanoff has delivered lectures on Economic Theory, Mathematical Economics and Econometrics in different Departments, as well as in Gyumri and Eghegnadzor Branches. Yesterday, he delivered the last lecture at the Department of Regulation of Economy and International Economic Rеlations. The auditorium was overcrowded. Students of different Departments, as well as foreign ones attended the lecture. The professor along with issues of economic theory referred to Armen Alchyan, Armenian-American economist, who was one of the most popular economists of the 20th century, one of the founders of the new institutional economy.
