From January 27 to February 7, 2019, Sos Khachikyan, Dean of Department of Computer Science and Statistics, visited University of Massachusetts, USA, within the frames of “USA-Armenia research collaboration” project carried out with Innovative Solutions and Technologies Center (ISTC).
Sos Khachikyan noted that the visit aimed at introducing collaboration directions in the field of education, science and research in inter-university relations. A Memorandum of Understanding was developed with the Center for Civil Initiatives at the University of Massachusetts, the main provisions of which were discussed with ASUE Acting Rector Ruben Hayrapetyan. The memorandum includes opportunities for collaborative projects: exchange of students and lecturers, implementation of research, master's degree programs and other fields.
Particularly, as a result of the discussions it was decided to work jointly for a new master’s degree program, the outcomes of which should be addressed to the improvement of the business environment through technological tools, social innovation and e-democracy development. "One of the main achievements of the visit was that the colleagues from the University of Massachusetts presented detailed information about the university's important role in planning the economic development of nearby cities. They expressed willingness to share their experience and methodology in case of necessity to plan Yerevan as a city economy and to ensure ASUE's important role"; Sos Khachikyan stated.
