"Global and Regional Economic Outlook: Policy Challenges and Opportunities for Armenia": a lecture by Teresa Daban Sánchez

A lecture on "Global and Regional Economic Outlook: Policy Challenges and Opportunities for Armenia" took place today at ASUE Great Hall. The lecture was conducted by Ms. Teresa Daban Sánchez, IMF Resident Representative in Armenia.  ASUE Rector, Professor Koryun Atoyan, Vice-Rector for Scientific Affairs and External Relations Gagik Vardanyan, faculty staff members and students were present at the lecture. ASUE Division of Foreign Relations organized the meeting.

In his welcoming speech Rector Koryun Atoyan stressed that it was an honored to host the IMF Resident Representative.  “The cooperation between ASUE and IMF is becoming a good tradition. Our last meeting was two years ago when our University hosted Mr. Guillermo Tolosa. Our meetings are a ground for further cooperation,” said the Rector.

In her welcoming speech Teresa Daban Sánchez thanked Koryun Atoyan for kind words and said that she was happy to be here, as it reminded her student years. Teresa Sanchez emphasized the profession of an economist, stressing that economics is an interesting science that continues to evolve and helps us to understand everything that is happening around us.

Starting the lecture, Teresa Sanchez spoke about global economic outlooks, referred to the international oil price and the developments around it, showed the price dynamics of metals, grain, food, etc. At the same time she predicted economic growth of 3.5% for the global economy. She particularly referred to Russia's economic situation, and showed its impact on Armenia's economy. At the end Teresa Sanchez outlined the conclusions and suggestions.

After the lecture Rector thanked Teresa Sánchez, hoping that ASUE and IMF will find a new format of further cooperation.
