WE SHOULD DEVELOP OUR LANGUAGE, SPEAK CORRECTLY, WRITE IN ARMENIAN LETTERS: INTERNATIONAL MOTHER LANGUAGE DAY

The  International  Mother  Language  Day,  February 21,   was  fixed  and  left  to generations as a vivid testimony due  to the  political  straggle,  which  was  prompted   about  60  years  ago  to  recognize   Bengali  as  a  separate  language. In 1952 the police shot and killed a group of young people  in Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh),  who  came  out to  protest  against  the  Government  Decree  to  recognize Urdu  the  only  official  language. In memory of this struggle,  since 1999 UNESCO  celebrates International Mother Language Day.

It’s  already several years  that  we  also  celebrate  it: in 2005 February 21  was officially declared   as  Mother Language Day.
