IMF Resident Representative to Armenia Conducted Lecture at ASUE

Today, within the cooperation of ASUE  and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Director of IMF Yerevan Office Teresa Daban Sanchez  conducted a lecture on “Regional Economic Outlook. Caucasus and Central Asia” at ASUE. The meeting was attended by ASUE Rector Koryun Atoyan, Vice Rector of Science and International Relations Gagik Vardanyan, representatives  of Faculty staff, employees, Economist of IMF Yerevan Office Vahram Janvelyan, students. The measure was organized by ASUE  Foreign Relations Division.

Welcoming the attendees Koryun Atoyan highlighted the permanent cooperation of our University and IMF and mentioned that the periodic lectures enable to acquire information on economic outlook of our country and the Region.

Teresa Sanchez expressed happiness on an enhanced cooperation. The speaker mentioned  that for visualizing economic outlook of Armenia we should first consider the Global one then the regional economic one.

Under the “Armenia’s economic outlook prospects”  theme the speaker  stressed that having a small and open economy Armenia is greatly influenced by external economic environment (in particular, our country’s major trading partner is Russia, cooperation with China and the EU countries) and has already acquired ability to withstand shocks.

Agriculture and mining sectors were viewed as the main ones for providing Armenia’s economic outlook.

After the lecture the attendees asked questions. In response, the speaker presented her ideas concerning the maintenance of macroeconomic stability, ensuring service quality, tourism, etc.

Rector Koryun Atoyan summed up the meeting and expressed  gratitude for conducting an interesting  and useful lecture.
