ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan Met the Director of IFES

Today, ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan met Jérôme Leyraud, International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES) Country Director for Armenia. The meeting was attended by Armen Grigoryan, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Dr. Vardan Atoyan - Deputy Director-Senior Expert of AMBERD Research Center, Hakob Manucharyan, Associate Professor at the Chair of Law and Political Science, PhD in History and guests.

Let’s recall, that on January 29, 2020, within the framework of the USAID-founded “Strengthening Electoral Processes and Political Accountability in Armenian (SEPPA) project, a signing ceremony of IFES Armenia’s “Engaged Citizen” University course took place at Double Tree by Hilton hotel, Yerevan, which was attended by ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan. The launch of the civic education program entails the design of a new civic education course, which is to be adopted and added to the curriculum of five Armenian Universities.

The course is aimed to foster notions of active citizenship, democratic governance and human rights in modern Armenia via contemporary interactive teaching methodologies, by providing students with the knowledge, skills and means necessary for their effective engagement, as well as to strengthen democratic principles.

Vardan Atoyan and Hakob Manucharyan have participated in the training course within the frames of the mentioned project.

Issues related to bilateral cooperation and the introduction of the course were discussed at the meeting. ASUE Rector Diana Galoyan presented ASUE development programs, among them she pointed out the direction of introduction of short-term courses, research programs, among which she emphasized the ranking of AMBERD research center in Go To Think Tank Index Report 2019 of Pennsylvania, as well as she also referred to the cooperation programs with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Jérôme Leyraud, International Foundation for Electoral Systems’ (IFES) Country Director for Armenia, expressed satisfaction for the cooperation with ASUE, expressing readiness to support the implementation of joint programs.

At the end of the meeting educational materials related to the program were handed to ASUE, then Vardan Atoyan and Hakob Manucharyan were awarded certificates of participation in the “Engaged Citizen” University course.

The Office informs that the materials of the “Engaged Citizen” University course were developed within the framework of the USAID-founded “Strengthening Electoral Processes and Political Accountability in Armenian (SEPPA) project.
