Awarding the Winners of the "Best Student" Competition at the University of Economics
Today, awarding ceremony of the winners of “Best Students” republican competition was held at Armenian State University of Economics, attended by Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education and Science of the RA, Grisha Tamrazyan, Deputy Minister, Rectors of Universities, Vice Rectors, professors, students.
Ruben Hayrapetyan, Acting Rector, Doctor of Sciences, Professor, stated in his opening remarks that similar events were very important because they provided the opportunity to create the university environment that we all dream about. "That is, in the 21st century, we need to understand that the role of universities should be not just passive knowledge transfer, but the creation of the environment where learning and acquisition of great capacities will become a pleasant process”; Ruben Hayrapetyan stated adding that such events are of great importance and they also create the university culture. "I think that in the new Armenia, where the direction of the economic revolution is announced, universities should have a central role and become a locomotive of leading the process. The culture we must develop should exclude all kinds of unwanted attitudes. The university outcome has such a great social and cultural component, which should not be casted with a shadow, with false social issues or agenda”; stated the Head of University of Economics.
In his welcoming speech, Arayik Harutyunyan, Minister of Education and Science, noted that such competitions were justified if the students participating in the contest, even if they do not win, do not discuss the project implementation. "Student-centered-education is one of our important guidelines: consultation with students, sharing ideas with students, and testing their ideas are our key activities”; the Minister stated.
The Minister noted, the role of student councils should be increased, but in some positive sense and with changed content, not as it has been before and has maintained in some universities.
Congratulating all winners and participants of “Best Student” competition the Minister called to be free, critics, initiator and purposeful, to make uses of the opportunities in the new Armenia in order to support the progress of the country and to build a new Armenia.
Then awarding solemn ceremony was held. Based on the results of the competition committee approved by the order of the RA Minister of Education and Science, 37 students of Bachelor's and Master's educational programs, from 15 HEIs in Armenia have been recognized as winners in 7 fields (natural sciences, social science, Armenology, humanitarian, medicine, engineering, and culture-sports). Among them, Gagik Hakobyan, the 4th year student of “Insurance” specialty of ASUE Finance Department, took the first place in the Bachelor's degree program in social science.
